Uptime
In the past 4 years Zope Hosting had a server downtime total of 4 hours. This is an uptime of exactly 99.98858447488584%, or shorter 99.99%.
The competition talks about 99% uptime. This is more than 2 weeks downtime in the last 4 years.
They had a downtime of more than 2 weeks? Sounds a little extreme, doesn't it? Well, maybe they didn't care about the reliability of their uptime claims. 99% sounds good for marketing purposes, but when you don't do the math, it doesn't:
- 100% = 8'760 hours per year (365*24)
- 99% = 8'672 hours per year
- 99% = 87,6 hours downtime per year
- 87,6 hours = 3.65 days
- That's 7.3 hours per month
I think that it is not acceptable for a business to be offline one day in 3 months. The damage would be too big.
Yes, this weblog entry sound like marketing. Our uptime of 99.99% is indeed the best reference.
But this weblog shall not be used for marketing. We decided to use a weblog, because it is a good way to stay in contact with customers. Interested people can learn what they will get from Zope Hosting.
